Do you know the first step toward improving our lives and the lives of others around us? Be happy in what you do...

A hectic schedule of nurses is viewed in this way - call light's always ringing, patients need care, charts and record keeping take up valuable time-these are not enough. They need to be skilled proficient, skilled, caring and compassionate and happy at all times. According to Dr. Robert Holden, author of Shift Happens, being happy makes everybody feel good and we feel even better when we impart it to others. It is our gift to the people around us. This is applicable mostly to healthcare professionals. "Our joy is a gift for those we are caring for". A smile can be pill to a patient even those who are very ill. Remember, nurse should stand firm with their guilt feelings when they need to feel happy even their patients are unhappy. Don’t feel bad for your patients. Be in the center of your joy while giving quality care to your patients.

Professionalism is still sought-after. But you can’t hear this from Patch Adams, a lifetime advocate of the healing power of humor and play. He devoted his life in converting the medical establishment. Empowered nurses are happy nurses. Happy nurses are the frontliners in patient care. This may result to direct collision on patient’s health. Nurse became more empathetic when she is happy. She can manage the stress of nursing job better, and she can bring encouragement to people she dealt with. Dr. Holden imagined that all of us have a space within us where we are already happy. Happiness doesn’t comprise an outside source. In fact, we shouldn’t stop searching for happiness. Nurses must focus on their own happiness. Dr. Holden added that when our goal is service, like in healthcare, we can care for others far better than we care for ourselves. To improve the quality of care we’re offering to our patients, we need to end this manic, providing care as fast as we can. Do your job unhurriedly and embrace the happiness and joy. This will allow us to be more adoring and kind to others. [via]
