According to the Royal College of Nursing's (RCN) annual Congress in Harrogate, the different dress codes in hospitals and individual wards had confused the patients to determine which dress code is for the nurses and which is for the other staff. Perhaps older people whose eyesight isn't so good are puzzled too. A national uniform will represent a more professional image. This plan will determine the difference of their uniform. During the annual congress, they had announced that Florence Nightingale-style caps will be introduced to nurses in Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, to help the patients identify them. The re-introduction of standard dress code is now implemented in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Damian Ronksley, member of RCN's Association of Student Nurses, proposed the action plan. The action was rated 76 percent at first but now it was 24 percent. Even nurses in individual wards can be observed in different uniform. Even nursing students have distinctive uniform. This scheme can be comprehensive to other professions within the health service to let the patients effortlessly learn the variation between staff such as doctors or occupational therapists. Nevertheless, not all nurses support the plan. According to Lisa Lester, a mental health nurse, visiting people carefully in their own home is a critical task. [via] |
