In spite of the economic downturn and miserable employment environment, nursing still gives great opportunities for job seekers. Healthcare organizations merged to fill up positions that will help to reach the medical requirements of the increasing population of the country. According to Audrey Berman, Dean of Nursing at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, most nurses may work in every possible field. The newly grads may enter the field as generalists. They should learn to get the chance to nurture and develop their range of knowledge and skills. The increasing number of nurses works outside the hospital settings.

Nurses are working in a facility excluding hospital. This move was done because of technological advances wherein the growth of clinical procedures had arisen. Kevin McCormack, Media Relations Manager at California Pacific Medical Centre in San Francisco, said that more applications for RN positions were being submitted in his hospital. Over the past few months, the no. of inpatient and outpatient turn down. People who are jobless with health care coverage are the consequences of the delay in activity. Doctors said that patients are not avoiding aesthetic procedures but the screening tests like colonoscopies. From the data of Bureau of Labor, figures are reflected with the development.

Since 2004, there is a net loss of jobs in hospitals. But it resulted to 700 employees for all hospital occupation. The statistics showed that this is just a little figure in contrast to the 4.71M people employed by hospitals. Let us be reminded that at present, there is 110,800 more hospital work compared to the previous year. BLS said that the overall total of jobs since March is 13,500 mainly ambulatory care services. Berman said that the nurse shortage is not basis of job opportunities for nurses. There is a real actual need for more nurses which is approximately 500,000 for the next 10-15 years. [via]
