Non-State Nursing Institutions In Vietnam

In 2006, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam permitted a non-State run education institution to enroll students for two-year nurse training courses for the first time. The Phuong Nam Economics and Technique Vocational School enrolled more than 200 students in the first year.

In 2007, Nguyen Tat Thanh College enrolled 1,000 trainees and Nam Dinh Nursing University enrolled 1,100 students. In the middle of November 2007, the Hong Duc Private Nursing and Healthcare Technique enrolled 600 regular students from 64 provinces and cities nationwide. Only 200 students a year can be enrolled in State owned schools, which has caused a large number of students to enroll in private institutions. That is why there are now 60 nursing schools.

Previously, non-State institutions were not permitted to train students in fields relating to healthcare, but recently, these institutions have been gradually being permitted by the Government of Vietnam for the reason that State-owned institutions can enroll only 200 students a year.

In whatever manner, the private training institutions must be examined carefully to guarantee they give training of high degree of excellence.

To permit many non-State schools to enroll students for two year nurse training courses is a good of the Government of Vietnam to minimize the shortage of nurses.
