After the Chairman of AIC Limited and the National Commercial Bank, Michael Lee Chin, initially donated $142 million to provide part of the payment for the construction of the state-of-the-art facility, he has contributed an extra $105 million for the full accomplishment of the Hyacinth Chen School of Nursing at the Seventh-day Adventist - owned and operated Northern Caribbean University (NCU). The $35 million will be used for building materials and labor prices, while the $70 million will be utilized for furnishing and equipping the building. The Hyacinth Chen School of Nursing, named in recognition of Michael Lee Chin's mother, is being constructed on a 21,000-square foot area opposite the NCU's main campus in Mandeville, Manchester. Its construction started in May 2007 and its opening will be on August 10, 2008. it will have room for nearly 800 students, double the present NCU enrollment of nursing students. Lee Chin is hoping for a good return from this social investment in a nursing school in the same way that remittances sent back to Jamaica from the exported nurses of Jamaica.
