The eligibility requirements in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation will be strengthened beginning next fall. Pre-nursing and nursing students were informed about the changes thru e-mails. To continue the good academic standing, starting next year, 2.75 grade-point average must be maintained by pre-nursing students instead of a 1.75 GPA during their first and second semesters. A 3.25 GPA must be maintained instead of a 2.0 GPA in their third and fourth semesters. As part of the new condition, students must have a 2.75 GPA instead of a 2.0 GPA if they want to alter their majors to nursing.

According to Kelsey Bergstrom, a Nursing sophomore, students with low GPAs may still be accepted in the nursing program if they got high scores in the Nursing Entrance Test. But in the new requirements, there were many changes. Cheryl Herrera, Director of Student Services for the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, said that the modifications were made because students' interest in nursing program was increased but the program offering was decreased because of insufficient budget.

There are 400 applicants each year and only 220 are accepted. They need to adjust their admission requirements to find the most capable applicants. The admission requirements will include an interview and application essays. And with this scenario, an efficient way of interview must be done. [via statepress.com]
