According to the Royal College of Nursing's (RCN) annual Congress in Harrogate, the different dress codes in hospitals and individual wards had confused the patients to determine which dress code is for the nurses and which is for the other staff. Perhaps older people whose eyesight isn't so good are puzzled too. A national uniform will represent a more professional image. This plan will determine the difference of their uniform. During the annual congress, they had announced that Florence Nightingale-style caps will be introduced to nurses in Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, to help the patients identify them. The re-introduction of standard dress code is now implemented in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. |

One of the few professions that was not affected by economic turndown was nursing. Colleges reported that their nursing population continue to increase. The job opportunity, salary, and benefits of a nurse are getting higher. The only problem is the deficiency of teachers and schools who will teach the next batches of students. Due to lack of instructors and classroom space, nursing schools no longer accept capable applicants. C. Fay Raines, President of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing said that they observe growing demand for nurses, but they require widening of the channel. A special meeting was held last Monday night by Yuma Union High School District's Governing Board. The Officials gathered because they plan to lay-off school nurses. They are pertaining to those nurses who have been working in the region for almost 20 years. Swapping school nurses with secretaries trained in first aid is the alternative thought by the school board. According to Board officials, they have to cut costs because 85% of their budget goes to employees' salaries and benefits. But the school nurses defended that this choice might jeopardize student's lives and this will result to a possible complaint. |

Allison Frazeur, 21yrs. old, graduated from the University of Portland last May. She is 1 of the 30 scholars of Providence Scholars Program which paid her tuition for her last two years in college and she agreed to work there in full time basis for 3years. She is not troubled in seeking for a job. She believes that she will work as a nurse at the Providence Health System. The scholarship program began in the school year of 2002-2003. |
