When we talk of local nursing earnings, the distance is a big distinction. Based from the U.S. Department of Labor 2008 occupational statistics, a registered nurse can earn more than $10,000 in Kingston, unlike those who are working in Poughkeepsie. Also, high salaries were given to nurses in New York and mid-Hudson Valley areas. Sylvia Murphy, spokeswoman for HealthAlliance (the parent organization of Kingston and Benedictine hospitals), said that it is very difficult for them to recruit.

Maranda Neal, UT Senior Nurse enjoys giving tender love and care to people. She has passion in helping others. She said that everyone should possess nursing skill. Students are skillfully trained. "You’re taking care of them as a whole person, their body, mind and soul," she said.

One of Midland Memorial Hospital's main goals is to keep its nurses glad doing the job.  Angelina Winslett, the program's Medical Surgical Nurse Educator, said that they want them to be a part of their family. About 60% of new nursing grads leave the job in their first two years. Kyle Comin, a recent graduate who worked for a month, came to Midland Memorial just for the Versant RN Residency Program. He said that it's alarming to know that there is a shortage on nurses and so many people plan to become a nurse and then they go away.

 
US Needs to Import Nurses From Another Country

Union leaders of nurses say that importing workers can lower incentives to get better working conditions. Such duties are understaffing, mandatory overtime, and physically demanding work like lifting and bathing patients. To invite more nurses, wage has increased in some regions at the national level. For this reason, about 500,000 RN preferred not to practice their line of work. And according to union leaders, the economic downturn is likelihood to bring these nurses back into the field. Ann Converso, president of United American Nurses, asked "If joblessness is thorning, why do we need to import nurses from another country?" They consider thousands and thousands of RNs will respond to the job if conditions enhanced. Converso doesn't contest all overseas recruitment, but that lawmakers' focus should be on humanizing staffing ratios in hospitals to progress working environment. They have to permit nurses again to do what they do best, i.e. to care for human beings.
