As states by a 2007 analysis by the Florida Center for Nursing, the mean age of a nurse is 47, but in spite of the requirement for more nurses to serve Florida's aging populace, more than half of applicants having the necessary qualifications were refused admittance from Florida nursing schools due to inadequate supply of qualified faculty. To solve this complex problem that needs the cooperation and commitment of the whole community, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida began Enter Generation RN. This program is a public or private partnership extending to every part of the state to make extra educational and career chances for progress for nurses. It is one of different long-term solutions that are being utilized by First Coast Nurse Leaders, a local union of health care givers, hospitals, universities and health departments. |

A month after college, community and legislative leaders assembled to talk over fully and openly the fate of the Associate in Science Degree in Nursing (AND) program, Minnesota State Community and Technical College will carry on its AND program on the Fergus Falls campus next fall. The AND program was to rotate amid MSCTC campuses before going back to Fergus Falls campus in autumn 2009. The state's Board of Nursing of South Carolina gave accreditation to the Bachelor of Science in nursing program of the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Bluffton campus. This four-year nursing degree is a long-time purpose of the college that is expected to diminish the nursing shortage of the area. The first class graduates in 2011 will be reevaluated for the program because reevaluation is needed for all new programs. |
